12/9/2011 - SHRED FOR BREAD
We've got PALS, Fridge and the $pins, and the Bumpin' Jones providing music, a big raffle with prizes from Silent skateboards, Vermont skateboards, Burlington records and lots of local businesses, Nectar's will be providing drinks (21+ to drink, bring $) and of course the ramp will be open to the public.

The skatepark has been getting a lot of press lately, some positive 7 Days article and some less so Free Press article.
The issue is being taken up at Burlington City Hall (Contois Auditorium) on Monday, November 7th at 7:00pm.
You're presence there shows a that the community has an investment in this project, if you would like to do more WE NEED PEOPLE TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE PARK. The "public forum" begins at 7:30. This is your chance to speak for 2-3 minutes.
If you choose to speak here are a few tips to make your time most effective in the favor of the park:
Introduce Yourself- If you live in Burlington, be sure to say that.
Be Prepared- Read up on the issue and be well informed, bringing notes or a prepared statement is OK.
Be Respectful and Confident- You have every right to be there, to speak, and to defend this facility.
Be to the Point-
Tell the City Councilors why the Skatepark is important to you, speaking from the heart.
Express thanks for the city council’s support and for the allocation of $150,000 for the Skatepark when they passed this years budget in June.
You may also choose too address one or more of the following issues in your statement:
1. This is the only Skatepark in Burlington. There are dozens of baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and soccer fields in the city. There is only one Skatepark, please support it.
2. What the sport means to you and how skateboarding has impacted you (versus organized sports).
3. The condition of the current Skatepark is very bad. The materials used to build it (wood and steel) have reached the end of their useful life. This is why replacement of this facility with a new concrete park is really necessary.
4. The central location on the waterfront near the bike path for the Skatepark is important to ensure good public access and does not try to marginalize this segment of our community.
5. The new park will be farther from the homes of residents who have worries about noise.

Raise the Gnar
